Christopher Lee as Saruman
A corrupt wizard who desires the Ring for himself.

Notes: Famous for his performance as Dracula in dozens of '50s and '60s horror films, Lee is a devoted Tolkien fan and has called Lord of the Rings "the greatest literary achievement of my time."
Films: Sleepy Hollow, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, Gormenghast (TV)

Andy Serkis as Gollum (Voice)
A pitiful creature corrupted by the Ring.

Notes: Though actor Andy Serkis will be providing the voice, the team at WETA Digital will be creating Gollum as a CGI creature. Though many express skepticism that this complex character can be created in the computer, Jackson promises that new techniques of motion capture, muscle/skin rendering, and realistic animation will succeed at bringing Gollum to life. It is possible that Serkis may also play Smeagol in a flashback.

Nathaniel Lees as Ugluk
Orc commander who takes the hobbits prisoner.

Notes: Though much of Lees' face will likely be hidden under the extensive orcish makeup, his stark features will doubtless help to create the character.
Films: Young Hercules (TV), Rapa Nui

As Cheiron in TV's 'Young Hercules'

Bruce Spence as The Black Lieutenant
A powerful servant of the Dark Lord Sauron.

Notes: Also known as the Mouth of Sauron, this character is the closest we get to seeing Sauron in the books. While this might have changed for the film version, Spence will still have quite a role to play as one of the film's most frightening villains.
Films: Dark City, Mad Max films

Internet Movie Database Entry

As Mr. Wall in 'Dark City' (1998) From a Mad Max movie (?)
